The Dar Rapid Transit Agency (DART) has issued a strong reminder to the public that only official Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) buses are permitted to use the dedicated BRT lanes, a move aimed at enhancing safety and improving transport efficiency for thousands of daily commuters in Dar es Salaam.
In a public notice released on December 10, 2025, DART confirmed that all special permits previously issued to allow non-BRT vehicles into the lanes have been revoked.
This means that, effective immediately, no private car, government vehicle, or any other mode of transport except BRT buses is allowed to use the dedicated BRT corridors.
DART explained that enforcement teams will increase patrols across all routes to ensure the directive is strictly followed.
The agency cautioned that anyone found violating the order will face legal consequences.
The decision is intended to reduce congestion, prevent accidents, and preserve the BRT infrastructure, which serves as a critical transport lifeline for residents who rely on fast and reliable public transport every day.
DART further called on all citizens to support this initiative by respecting road regulations and reporting misuse of the BRT lanes whenever observed.
The agency emphasized that community cooperation is essential in maintaining smooth, safe, and dependable transport services for everyone.
The announcement was issued by the Communications and Public Relations Unit of DART.
