Arusha is set to host a landmark gathering of global parliamentarians, with more than 1,500 Speakers, Members of Parliament, and leaders from across the world expected to attend.

The event, organized by the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU), will place Tanzania at the centre of international parliamentary diplomacy.

On Thursday, December 4, 2025, Arusha Regional Commissioner, CPA Amos Gabriel Makalla, welcomed the IPU delegation, led by Ambassador Ande Filip, accompanied by Dr. Hoyce Temu, Deputy Permanent Representative of the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland.

The delegation outlined preparations for the six-day conference, confirming that President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is proposed as the Guest of Honour.

“Hosting this historic meeting reflects Tanzania’s longstanding engagement with the IPU and the high regard in which the country is held internationally. We have assured the delegation of our full cooperation to ensure a successful event,” RC Makalla said.

He emphasized that the meeting presents a unique opportunity for the people of Arusha and Tanzania to showcase peace, security, and stability, while boosting the country’s profile on the global stage.

RC Makalla also urged local communities to prepare for the economic benefits expected from hosting the international guests.

Ambassador Filip highlighted that the six-day meeting will offer participants not only parliamentary discussions but also opportunities to explore Tanzania’s historical sites and tourist attractions in Arusha and surrounding regions, enhancing cultural exchange alongside official deliberations.

The conference is expected to strengthen Tanzania’s position in international parliamentary diplomacy and highlight Arusha as a hub for global meetings, offering lasting economic and diplomatic impact.
