The Minister for Energy, Deogratius Ndejembi, has urged African countries to deepen cooperation in advancing efficient energy use, saying coordinated action is crucial to reducing energy losses and cutting unnecessary investment costs across the continent.

Speaking on December 10, 2025, at the African Union Energy Forum held at the AU Headquarters in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Minister Ndejembi stressed that the continent’s energy future depends on stronger collaboration and shared commitment.

He said Tanzania is ready to work closely with the private sector, development partners, and regional stakeholders to accelerate economic and social development through sustainable energy solutions.

“As African nations meeting here as energy stakeholders, we must unite in implementing our plans for the future of this continent. The Government of Tanzania stands ready to work closely with the private sector, development partners, and all actors to ensure we register significant economic and social gains,” he said.

During the forum, Minister Ndejembi participated in a ministerial panel session where he presented Tanzania’s achievements in promoting energy efficiency and expanding access to clean cooking technologies.

He noted that Tanzania has already launched and is implementing its 10-year National Clean Cooking Strategy (2024–2034), supported by a communication strategy and an action plan aimed at building nationwide awareness and adoption.

“As of November 2025, about 23.2 percent of Tanzanians are using clean cooking energy, compared to only 6.9 percent in 2021. This is a major step forward, and we expect the number of users to continue rising significantly,” he said.

The minister was accompanied by Eng. Innocent Luoga, Commissioner for Electricity and Renewable Energy at the Ministry of Energy.
