ACT-Wazalendo Chairman Othman Masoud Othman has urged Muslims across the country to live by the true teachings of Islam by actively practising good deeds and standing firmly for justice in their communities.
Speaking shortly after Friday prayers at Al-Kheith Mosque in Mwera Kidogo Basi, Othman said faith should be reflected through actions, particularly among leaders entrusted with authority over others.
He noted that communities develop trust and confidence when they are led by individuals who uphold justice with integrity, adding that Muslim leaders are especially expected to be guided by the ethical foundations of their religion.
Othman expressed concern that, despite these expectations, some local leaders who identify as Muslims continue to deny fellow Muslims their rights, particularly at grassroots levels such as shehias.
“People naturally place their trust in leaders who are Muslims, believing they will be treated fairly. However, it is troubling that in some areas, leaders who are Muslims still oppress their own people by denying them justice,” he said.
He described it as deeply unfortunate to see individuals misuse authority to the extent of harming others, stressing that spilling the blood of a fellow Muslim is strictly prohibited under Islamic teachings.
The ACT-Wazalendo chairman said such actions not only contradict religious principles but also undermine social harmony and erode public confidence in leadership.
In his concluding remarks, Othman called on Muslims to defend justice in practice and to invest in education and awareness on rights and responsibilities, saying this was essential for building a society based on trust, unity and lasting peace.
He emphasized that genuine religious commitment, he said, is demonstrated through fairness, accountability and respect for human dignity values he described as critical to social cohesion and national stability.
