Youth warned to avoid social media that fuels division violence

By The Respondents Reporter

Young Tanzanians have been urged to resist divisive content on social media and steer clear of anyone promoting violence, hatred, or unrest.

They were advised to carefully filter what they see online and focus on productive activities.

Alex Vitalis Ndailagiji, a motorcycle taxi (bodaboda) operator, said some youths join groups and mimic content on platforms such as TikTok, Instagram, and WhatsApp, which can fuel conflict. “I urge youths not to follow these trends.

They aim to divide us. If you are unemployed, focus on work like bodaboda, selling clothes, or other legal activities to earn a living instead of joining those who do not wish us well,” he said.

Speaking about the violence, theft, and destruction that followed the October 29, 2025, General Election, Ndailagiji highlighted how the incidents affected him socially and economically.

He called on young people to participate in nation-building rather than engaging in actions that destroy public and private property.

He also questioned the legitimacy of the October 29 demonstrations, saying they were misused as a cover for looting, vandalism, and harming citizens.

“I do not support such actions that disrupt the lives and livelihoods of Tanzanians,” he added.

Ndailagiji’s message serves as a reminder that youths have a critical role in safeguarding peace and promoting economic growth while using social media responsibly.
