Vice President of Tanzania, Ambassador Dr. Emmanuel Nchimbi, represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the 9th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region (ICGLR), held in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of the Congo.
The summit, convened under the theme “Strengthening Peace and Security for Sustainable Development in the Great Lakes Region,” brought together leaders, defense chiefs, and sectoral ministers to address security, mineral management, gender equality, and financial issues across the region.
Tanzania, through Vice President Nchimbi, reaffirmed its support for all key agendas, particularly those aimed at enhancing peace and security.
The country reiterated its long-standing commitment to contributing to regional stability, emphasizing its active role in ensuring lasting peace in the Great Lakes region.
At the summit’s opening, the newly elected ICGLR Chairperson and President of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Felix Tshisekedi, congratulated President Samia on her victory in the October 2025 elections, praising her leadership and vision.
Member states were reminded of the importance of upholding the ICGLR Charter, which calls for genuine peace, security, and development through cooperation, unity, and solidarity, with each country committing its resources and efforts to achieve these goals.
Vice President Nchimbi attended the summit alongside key Tanzanian officials, including Zanzibar’s Secretary General in the President’s Office, Salehe Juma Mussa; Deputy Parmanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Said Shaib Mussa; Tanzanian Ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Said Juma Mshana; and other senior officials and experts.
Tanzania’s active participation highlights its role as a leading advocate for peace, security, and sustainable development in the Great Lakes region.
