Simba SC start CAF Champions League group stage with home defeat to Petro Atlético

By The Respondents Reporter

Simba Sports Club suffered a frustrating 1-0 defeat at home against Petro Atlético of Angola in their opening match of the CAF Champions League group stage at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium.

The Tanzanian champions dominated possession for long periods but struggled to convert their chances, allowing the Angolan side to capitalize on a rare defensive lapse. The decisive goal came midway through the first half, leaving Simba chasing the game for the remainder of the match.

Despite creating opportunities, Simba’s attack lacked the clinical edge required at this level, while Petro Atlético defended resolutely and held on to secure a valuable away win.

The loss puts pressure on Simba to recover quickly in their remaining group stage matches, with every point crucial for qualification to the knockout rounds.

Club officials expressed disappointment but remained optimistic. “This is just the beginning. We must learn from today’s mistakes, tighten our defense, and improve our finishing,” a club spokesperson said.

Simba now turns their focus to their next group fixture, aiming to bounce back and keep their hopes alive in Africa’s premier club competition.
