The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries, Agnes Meena, has urged the Tanzania Livestock Research Institute (TALIRI) to step up production of livestock and forage to enhance productivity and meet national development goals.

Speaking during her working visit to the TALIRI–Kongwa Centre in Dodoma on Wednesday, November 27, 2025, Ms. Meena emphasized that the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania, under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, is committed to transforming the livestock sector through modern, productivity-focused approaches.

“The government expects TALIRI to move from one stage to another by significantly increasing the production of livestock and forage in a sustainable and impactful way,” Ms. Meena said.

She stressed that TALIRI’s enhanced research and innovations will be key to improving national livestock outputs, supporting farmers, and strengthening the livestock value chain across the country.

Ms. Meena expressed optimism that with improved livestock breeds and expanded forage production, TALIRI will contribute to achieving the ministry’s objectives and broader government targets for economic growth, particularly in rural communities where livestock is a major source of livelihood.
