Tanzania has emerged victorious in the elections held at the 21st General Conference of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, securing two key positions.
The country has been unanimously elected as a member of the UNIDO Industrial Development Board for the term 2025-2029 and as a member of the Programme and Budget Committee for the term 2025-2027, representing the African Group.
Ambassador and Permanent Representative of Tanzania to the United Nations in Vienna, Naimi S.H. Aziz, represented President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the conference and expressed gratitude to all African Ambassadors for their trust in Tanzania to represent the region on these critical policy and decision-making bodies.
"The membership on the Industrial Development Board and Programme and Budget Committee will provide a unique opportunity for Tanzania to advise on the organization's policies and programs related to industrial development, and to fully participate in decision-making on plans and implementation of various UNIDO projects for member states," Ambassador Aziz said.
The election is a testament to Tanzania's commitment to promoting industrial development and economic growth in the region.
The country's membership on these bodies is expected to enhance its influence in shaping UNIDO's agenda and programs, and to promote cooperation and collaboration with other member states.
The conference was also attended by Deputy Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Ms. Felister Mdemu, and Director of Industrial Development at the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Mr. Juma Mwampamba.
Tanzania's election to these key positions is a significant achievement, reflecting the country's growing role in international diplomacy and its commitment to promoting economic development and cooperation in the region.
