The local athletics Association(AT)says it is happy with the performance of six junior athletes who represented the country at the just ended Nagai Marathon in Japan.
AT president Rogath John Stephen Akhwali in an interview said the association is extremely happy with the performance of the six athletes.
The Tanzania team was represented by males Micheal Kashiba ,Joseph Pang,Charles Sulle, females were Vaileth Ladasi ,Agnes Mwagh and Jumanne Ndege while leader of delegation and team manager was Rtd Colonel Juma Ikangaa and head coach was Samson Nyonyi.
At the marathon which was held at Nagaiyama Port Town, marathoner Kashiba emerged top by using 2.15 which was course record , Panga was on first position in half marathon, he used 1.02.52 while his country man Sulle was on second position by using 2.16.30 and Ndege was on fourth position in the same category.
Famale Tanzanians Marathoner Ladasi who emerged top by using 2.41,37 , half marathoner Mwagh was also on first position for using 1.12.51.
“ Our athletes performed well at the Nagai Marathon ,this is extremely very good and as an association we are happy with their achievements, we will make sure that they are competing at future international events,” he said
The Tanzania team was sponsored by Nagai City Mayor.
The Nagai marathon was held in Tohoku region, race was officially certified by the Japan Association of Athletics Federations (JAAF) and the World Athletics (WA)
Meanwhile ,AT has called upon Tanzanians and other athletics lovers around the globe to vote for Felix Alphonce Simbu who the WA nominated for the athlete of the year award.
Akhwali said Simbu nomination for the award is the milestone in the country's athletics record as he becomes the first Tanzanian to be nominated for the WA prestigious award.
“This is the biggest achievement for the whole country not Simbu only , We Tanzanians and other athletics Lovers across the globe should vote for him , his achievements signifies the country's development in Sports ,so we must vote for him,” he said .
