Kyela youth gain 24-hour work freedom, unlocking new opportunities

By The Respondents Reporter

Youth in Kyela District can now work around the clock, following the government’s decision to lift restrictions that previously limited activities after 6 p.m.

The move aims to empower young people, boost entrepreneurship, and create more economic opportunities.

The announcement came during a working visit by Minister of State in the President’s Office responsible for Youth Development, Joel Nanauka, who met with youth at Kyela Market today (November 27, 2025) to hear their concerns and suggestions.

Youth representatives said the previous restrictions had affected livelihoods, particularly for motorcycle taxi operators and small-scale business owners. Saimon Charles said, “Being unable to work beyond 6 p.m. made it difficult to earn a living. Lifting the restriction gives us a chance to grow and thrive economically.”

Kyela District Commissioner Josephine Manase confirmed that peace has been restored in the area, allowing residents to conduct activities at any time.

The announcement was welcomed with joy by young people, who said the Minister’s visit addressed challenges that have persisted since the last general election.

Minister Nanauka highlighted that the creation of a dedicated youth ministry under President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan is designed to empower young Tanzanians by listening to their ideas and implementing programs that support their growth.

In the first 100 days, the government plans to roll out 13 key initiatives, six of which focus on youth development.

To strengthen youth engagement, the Minister announced plans for a modern digital platform that will allow young people to communicate directly with the ministry, share feedback, and access support for lawful income-generating activities.

During his tour of Mbeya Region, Minister Nanauka engaged youth and women entrepreneurs in Kyela and Ipinda markets, gathering their suggestions on improving government programs.

He was accompanied by Deputy Secretary General of the President’s Office for Youth Development, Dr. Kedmon Mapama.

The visit follows the campaign slogan, “Vijana Tuyajenge, Tanzania ni Yetu” (“Let’s Build Youth, Tanzania is Ours”), aimed at uniting young people to discuss ideas, create opportunities, and shape a brighter future for Tanzania’s youth.
