The Minister for Natural Resources and Tourism, Dr. Ashatu Kijaji, has underscored the need for stronger adoption of modern technology in Tanzania’s conservation areas, saying it is essential for protecting wildlife and ensuring communities live safely alongside these resources.

Speaking on November 28, 2025, during her familiarisation tour at the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA), Dr. Kijaji said improved technology including digital monitoring systems, data-driven patrols, and smart surveillance will help reduce human–wildlife conflicts and reinforce the long-term safety of surrounding communities.

She emphasized that Tanzania’s natural wealth is a national asset that fuels jobs, local economic growth, and international tourism.
“Every institution must invest in modern technologies to secure these resources that attract visitors and open doors for economic opportunities,” she said.

Deputy Minister Hamad Hassan Chande called on workers in the conservation and tourism sectors to uphold professionalism and innovation, saying citizens and tourists alike deserve high-quality services in all protected areas.

Permanent Secretary Dr. Hassan Abbasi urged NCAA staff to fully support government directives, noting that stronger collaboration will speed up reforms and ensure benefits trickle down to communities who rely on tourism for livelihoods.

During their visit, the ministry’s leaders inspected the construction of the new NCAA headquarters, reviewed visitor services at Loduare Gate, and toured the Ngorongoro Geoheritage Museum, which preserves the area’s cultural and historical treasures for both citizens and global visitors.

The emphasis on technology-driven conservation is expected to boost safety, strengthen resource protection, and create broader benefits for Tanzanians living near wildlife habitats.
