The Tanzanian government, through the Ministry of Health, has taken steps to strengthen community-level programs addressing HIV and tuberculosis under the seventh funding cycle in partnership with the Global Fund.

Permanent Secretary of Health, Dr. Seif Shekalaghe, confirmed the development on Thursday, November 21, 2025, during a working session with a Global Fund delegation from Geneva, Switzerland, held at the Ministry’s Dar es Salaam offices.

Dr. Shekalaghe said the government will contribute one million US dollars to the eighth funding cycle, starting January 2027, to support the fight against HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and to reinforce the country’s health systems.

“Last week, we launched the seventh cycle, which will run until December 2026. During 2024–2026, Tanzania will receive over 500 million US dollars from the Global Fund. We have already begun discussions to secure support for the 2027–2029 cycle. The government’s own contribution ensures we are not entirely dependent on external funds,” he explained.

He urged project teams to deliver on time and use financial resources with transparency and accountability.

Dr. Shekalaghe also encouraged citizens to follow health experts’ advice to prevent both infectious and non-infectious diseases, stressing the importance of community participation in maintaining healthcare infrastructure and equipment.

“We commend the Sixth Phase Government, led by President Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, for providing substantial funding and support to the health sector, ensuring quality healthcare reaches every Tanzanian,” he added.
