The Government has confirmed continued progress in the legal process to release individuals arrested following the October 29, 2025 disturbances, with 1,736 out of the 2,045 detainees expected to be freed after due legal procedures are completed.
Minister for Constitution and Legal Affairs, Dr. Juma Zuberi Homera, gave the update on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, during his visit to the National Prosecution Office, where he assessed ongoing work and the management of prosecution services nationwide.
Dr. Homera said the release process is being carried out in phases as verification and legal scrutiny continue.
“As of November 25, a total of 607 individuals out of the 1,736 approved for release have already regained their freedom,” he said.
“The remaining detainees will continue to be released once all legal requirements have been fulfilled.”he added
The minister was accompanied by Deputy Minister Zainab Katimba, Deputy Permanent Secretary Dr. Franklin Rwezimula, and senior officials from the ministry.
