Government boosts lawyers’ skills in handling international contracts

By The Respondents Reporter

The Office of the Attorney General is strengthening the capacity of government lawyers in handling international contracts, arbitration, and key sectors such as oil and gas.

The initiative is aimed at improving their ability to manage and execute strategic projects that benefit the nation.

Opening the training on behalf of the Deputy Attorney General, Director of Coordination and Advisory Services, Ms. Neema Ringo, said the programme is designed to equip lawyers with the skills needed to negotiate and manage complex international contracts linked to major development projects.

“The government’s lawyers are the chief advisors to the state. They must fully understand international laws that guide large-scale strategic contracts entered into by the government,” Ms. Ringo said.

She urged participants to actively engage, share experiences, and apply the knowledge to prevent and resolve disputes, particularly in the oil and gas sector.

She noted that this training is a vital investment in improving their performance and supporting the Office of the Attorney General in executing its responsibilities effectively.

The training is being conducted by global law firm Clyde & Co, in collaboration with the Office of the Attorney General, to build expertise and increase efficiency in legal services for the government.
