The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has honoured President Samia Suluhu Hassan for her outstanding contribution to the development of sports particularly football in Tanzania.
The award was received on her behalf by the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Culture, Arts and Sports and Government Spokesperson, Gerson Msigwa, during a ceremony held in Rabat, Morocco.
The event also brought together the President of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) and CAF Executive Committee Member, Wallace Karia, as well as the Chairman of African Clubs and Young Africans President, Eng. Hersi Said.
CAF said the recognition reflects President Samia’s strong commitment to advancing sports during her tenure, including major investments in sports infrastructure, the construction and rehabilitation of national stadiums, and Tanzania’s preparations to co-host the AFCON 2027 finals.
The country has also successfully hosted international events such as the CHAN tournament.
Her leadership has coincided with notable progress in football, including the rise of the Tanzania Premier League which now ranks fifth on the continent the growth of women’s football, and expanded initiatives to nurture youth players across the country.
