Clement Mzize wins 2025 CAF goal of the Year, a proud moment for Tanzania

Tanzania has earned another moment of pride on the continental stage after Young Africans striker Clement Mzize won the 2025 CAF Goal of the Year Award, showcasing the rising quality of local football talent.

CAF announced the winner on Wednesday, November 19, 2025, during its annual awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco.

Mzize clinched the title with the spectacular goal he scored against TP Mazembe during the 2024/25 CAF Champions League group-stage match at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on January 4, 2025. 

His brilliant finish contributed to Yanga’s commanding 3–1 victory, a match that remains memorable for fans across the country.

For many Tanzanians, the achievement reflects the growing impact of local clubs and athletes on African football. 

Sports analysts have described Mzize’s award as a strong indicator of Tanzania’s increasing competitiveness in continental tournaments.

Mzize triumphed over a diverse and talented list of nominees, including Ghizlane Chebbak, Abdellah Ouazane, Barbra Banda, Anas Roshdy, Asharaf Tapsoba, Calvin Fely, Ibrahim Adel, Jean Claude, Ndabayithethwa Ndlonolo, Refiloe Jane, Oussama Lamlioui, and Soufiane Bayazid.

The honour comes as Africa continues to celebrate sporting excellence, following the recent recognition of President Samia Suluhu Hassan by CAF for her remarkable contribution to sports development.
