Tanzanian youth see new Ministry as chance to shape their future

By The Respondents Reporter

The creation of a dedicated Ministry for Youth has sparked excitement among young Tanzanians, who see it as a major opportunity to influence national development and address long-standing challenges.

Abua Magaira, a young resident of Dar es Salaam, said the appointment of Joel Nanauka as Minister brings hope that youth issues will finally get the attention they deserve.

“We believe Minister Nanauka understands us. As a young leader, he knows the challenges we face and can champion our needs in government,” he said.

Youth leaders also praised President Samia Suluhu Hassan’s focus on promoting dialogue and cooperation among political and social stakeholders.

They believe this approach can create a more inclusive environment where young people’s voices are heard.

“The President’s efforts to build unity are crucial. It gives us confidence that our concerns will be addressed without political bias,” Abua added.

In her speech inaugurating the 13th Parliament last week, President Samia emphasized that more than 60 percent of Tanzania’s population is under 35.

She promised that the government will prioritize programs that expand economic opportunities, create jobs, strengthen social protection, and provide youth with the tools to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.

“The goal is to give young people a real stake in the future of our country. We want youth to participate actively in shaping policies that affect their lives,” President Samia said, adding that previous youth engagement platforms often lost impact due to political interference.

For many young Tanzanians, the new Ministry represents more than a symbolic gesture—it is a practical step toward empowerment.

Youth across the country hope to see policies that not only create opportunities but also give them a seat at the decision-making table, ensuring their ideas and talents contribute to national progress.

As Tanzania moves into this new chapter of youth-focused governance, young people are watching closely, ready to turn the promise of participation and opportunity into real results.
