Students from primary and secondary schools in Kaizirege and Kemebos located in Bukoba Municipality, Kagera Region, have appealed to Tanzanians, especially the youth, to maintain peace and stability and to refrain from involvement in violence.

They say maintaining calm is essential for ensuring that learners remain free from anxiety, especially during the ongoing national and end-of-year examinations.

They made this appeal yesterday in their statement read by Jovan Mwandala, a seventh-grade student, and Innocent Madaraka Nyerere, a form four student, during the graduation ceremony for the seventh grade and form four students of these schools held in Ijuganyondo ward.

The two expressed concern over incidents of violence, describing them as contrary to the nation’s values and harmful to students’ wellbeing.

"We ask our parents, brothers, sisters, and all Tanzanians to continue maintaining peace and stability. This peace relieves our worries and boosts our morale to study, especially now that we are taking our national exams, so we can perform well," Nyerere explained.

He emphasised that the efforts invested by the government, parents and the leadership of the two schools in strengthening education can only bear fruit when peace prevails.

A peaceful environment, he noted, allows students to concentrate on their studies without fear.

Jovan Mwandala added that violence, threats and conflict undermine academic performance.

He attributed last year’s high average score of 294.7 out of 300 among Standard Seven candidates to a stable and peaceful learning atmosphere that gave teachers confidence to teach and students room to excel

“These achievements are a result of quality teaching supported by close cooperation between teachers, parents and the school leadership, grounded in the principles of peace upheld since the country’s founding,” he said.

Mussa Mwinyidaho, NBC Bank's SME department head, addresses the audience as the guest of honor.

Mr. Kisha Ilamulira, the head of these schools, stated that their presence in Bukoba Municipality and Kagera Region contributes to increased employment, tax payments, and revenue growth resulting from proper tax compliance.

He added that during the 2024/2025 year, the schools were recognized as the top taxpayers in Kagera Region.

The guest of honour, Mr. Mussa Mwinyidaho, head of Small and Medium Enterprises at NBC Bank headquarters, representing Managing Director Theobard Sabi, commended parents for their commitment to investing in their children’s education.

He described education as a lasting legacy that equips young people for success in life.
