ACT Wazalendo rejects government commission on October 29 incidents

The Alliance for Change and Transparency (ACT Wazalendo) has rejected the commission announced by President Samia Suluhu Hassan to probe the violent events of October 29, 2025, and the following days.

In a statement, the party described the government-appointed commission, which includes local officials and security officers, as a “mockery” to the victims, the injured, and bereaved families.

ACT Wazalendo argued that some members of the commission should themselves be investigated rather than lead the inquiry.

“This is not a commission of justice; it is an attempt to shield those responsible for the abuses,” the party said, adding that it would not participate in the investigation, provide evidence, or cooperate in any way, citing concerns over the commission’s independence.

ACT Wazalendo is calling for the creation of a fully independent international commission, with members from bodies such as the United Nations, the Commonwealth, the African Union, and recognized international human rights organizations.

The party said such a commission is the only way to ensure justice for victims and prevent similar incidents in the future.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to justice and democracy in Tanzania, urging the international community to support calls for an impartial investigation.
