Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner Albert Chalamila has announced that the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service will resume at Mbagala terminal starting Thursday, November 20, 2025.
The BRT system, a dedicated bus network designed to provide fast and efficient public transport, is a key component of the city’s urban mobility strategy.
Its restoration comes after service disruptions caused by unrest following the October 29 general elections.
During a visit to inspect damaged facilities in Temeke District, Chalamila emphasized that restoring essential services is a government priority, particularly in areas heavily affected by post-election disturbances.
The BRT network is critical for daily commuters, and delays in its operation can significantly disrupt the movement of residents and economic activities.
The directive follows a formal request from Temeke District authorities, who highlighted the urgent need to bring back core services to reduce inconvenience and ensure residents can access workplaces, schools, and markets efficiently.
The government’s swift action demonstrates a commitment to maintaining public welfare and urban functionality despite challenges.
Despite the extensive damage to BRT terminals, assessments show that no schools were vandalized or burned during the unrest, indicating that the disturbances were largely confined to public infrastructure.
Authorities continue evaluating both public and private property damage to develop a structured plan for full service restoration.
Chalamila’s call for calm, solidarity, and unity underlines the importance of social cohesion in urban centers.
By restoring the BRT service promptly and urging residents to prioritize collective interests, the city aims to set an example of resilience, tolerance, and constructive civic engagement.
