ACT Wazalendo has issued a strong condemnation of what it describes as grave violations of human rights following the October 29, 2025 General Election.
The party says the incidents, which include deaths, injuries and disappearances in several parts of the country, demand urgent and transparent action to restore public trust and safeguard national cohesion.
In a statement released after a meeting of its National Leadership Committee, ACT Wazalendo expressed deep concern over reports of civilians who were shot and others who sustained serious injuries during confrontations shortly after the polls.
The party added that some families are still searching for relatives who have not been seen since the disturbances, a situation it says reflects a troubling pattern of fear and uncertainty.
ACT Wazalendo also pointed to targeted incidents against its members and candidates. The party highlighted the case of Sirari Ward councilor candidate in Tarime, Mara Region, Dafroza Jacob, who it says died on November 5, 2025, while in police custody after what it described as severe mistreatment.
According to the party, the case underscores a need for greater protection of political rights and fair participation in the democratic process.
The party extended condolences to families who lost loved ones and wished a quick recovery to those injured.
It emphasized that the events have affected ordinary citizens who had hopes and contributions to make toward national development.
“The pain felt today is shared across the country,” the statement read, noting that the incidents have raised serious questions about respect for civil liberties.
ACT Wazalendo has urged the government to facilitate an independent international investigation to establish the facts surrounding the violence and ensure transparency.
The party further insists that accountability must apply to all individuals involved in issuing orders, carrying out violent acts or concealing information.
It argued that justice is essential for preventing similar incidents in the future.
Additionally, the party called for an immediate end to the use of force against civilians and encouraged the initiation of a national dialogue that brings together all voices, particularly those of citizens most affected by the unrest.
The statement also renewed calls for broader reforms to the country’s constitutional, legal and institutional frameworks, saying such measures are necessary to reinforce democratic systems and restore public confidence.
ACT Wazalendo concluded by reaffirming its commitment to peace, justice and national unity, urging leaders and institutions to act responsibly in guiding the country toward recovery and reconciliation.
