Volleyball teams are being called to confirm their participation in this year’s Nyerere Cup, set to run from October 10 to 14 at Mwembe Yanga Ground in Dar es Salaam.
The tournament celebrates the legacy of Tanzania’s founding father, the late Julius Nyerere, while promoting sportsmanship and regional unity.
Riziki Godwin, Chairman of the Tanzania Volleyball Federation (TVF) League Board, told The Respondents Online that local teams will pay a participation fee of $300, while international teams will pay $250.
He urged clubs to register before the final deadline on October 9, when the technical committee will meet to finalize the tournament schedule.
“We have invited teams from mainland Tanzania, Zanzibar, and several other countries. Some have confirmed verbally, while others have sent official confirmations,” Godwin said, emphasizing that registration remains open for interested clubs.
The annual tournament aims to bring Tanzanians together while honoring the contributions of Mwalimu Nyerere to the nation.
Preparations are progressing smoothly, with 14 teams already confirmed from countries including Rwanda, Burundi, Zambia, Kenya, Malawi, and the host nation, Tanzania.
Confirmed men’s teams include Kenya Prisons Chema (Kenya), Rukinzo (Burundi), Falcon (Zambia), Serengeti, High Voltage Grace VC (Tanzania), APR (Rwanda), and Malawi Combine (Malawi). Women’s teams include KCB and Kenya Pipeline (Kenya), Falcon (Zambia), Star Girls, and Chui (Tanzania).
Godwin also called on sponsors, sports enthusiasts, and other stakeholders to support the event, ensuring it is successfully organized and continues to promote volleyball and community spirit across the region.
