Tanzania has reinforced its reputation as a leading contributor to global peace as the Eighth Battalion of the Tanzania People’s Defence Force (TANBAT 08) received the United Nations Peacekeeping Medal for its exemplary service in the Central African Republic (CAR).
The award, presented on October 6, 2025, in Berberati, recognized the battalion’s critical role in protecting civilians, supporting humanitarian operations, and restoring stability in communities affected by conflict.
More than 500 Tanzanian soldiers were honored during the ceremony, underscoring the nation’s continued commitment to international peace efforts.
Major General Maychel Asmi, Deputy Head of UN Peacekeeping Forces in CAR and guest of honor, praised TANBAT 08 for its professionalism and the positive relationship it built with local communities.
“These soldiers have made a remarkable impact, not only in maintaining peace but also in fostering trust and security among civilians. Their dedication sets a standard for peacekeeping operations worldwide,” he said.
Lieutenant Colonel Theofil Nguruwe, commander of TANBAT 08, described the award as a testament to the discipline, patriotism, and commitment of Tanzanian troops.
“Our soldiers served with honor and integrity. This recognition reflects the professionalism of the TPSF and is a source of national pride for Tanzania,” Lt. Col. Nguruwe said.
The ceremony featured a military parade by TANBAT commandos and performances of traditional Tanzanian dances, symbolizing national identity and unity.
Attendees included senior MINUSCA officials, high-ranking TPSF officers, CAR government representatives, humanitarian agencies, and local citizens, all commending Tanzania’s contribution to peace.
Tanzania has consistently stood out as a reliable contributor to UN peacekeeping operations for over 30 years, providing professional troops and effective leadership in conflict zones.
TANBAT 08’s recognition reinforces the nation’s global standing and highlights its ongoing role in advancing human security and regional stability.
By combining operational excellence with community engagement, Tanzanian peacekeepers continue to set the benchmark for professionalism, discipline, and commitment in international peacekeeping missions.
