Tanzania’s sports budget has skyrocketed to TZS 519.6 billion in 2025/26, a massive increase of over 1,194 percent compared to TZS 40.14 billion in 2020/21.
The government is investing heavily in modern sports infrastructure, including upgrading Benjamin Mkapa Stadium to international standards and building new stadiums in Dodoma and Arusha.
Sports facilities in schools and regions are also being improved, alongside programs to develop young talent, women’s sports, and support for key institutions like BMT, UMISSETA, and UMITASHUMTA.
Officials say the move aims to boost sports participation, nurture athletes, and strengthen Tanzania’s presence in regional and international competitions.
