At the recent graduation ceremony for Standard seven at
Kajunguti Primary School in Mushasha ward, Missenyi district, Sr Anastasia
Joseph, head of the school, highlighted the critical challenges the school
faces, particularly the lack of clean and safe water.
This issue not only hampers the daily operations of the
school but also poses serious health risks to students.
Tragically, this situation has resulted in the loss of a
Primary one pupil, Mastidia Malichory, who drowned in a rainwater pool while
the school was preparing porridge for the pupils.
Addressing the audience, Sr Anastasia outlined the urgent
need for improvements in water infrastructure, calling for the construction of
at least one storage tank to alleviate water shortages in the interim while
efforts are made to establish a well or connect to the municipal water supply.
She also raised concerns about the safety of students
crossing the road at Bulembo Corner station where there are no pedestrian
crossings, which adds to the risks they face.
The official guest at the ceremony, Projestus Tegamaisho,
the former Ward Kyaka Councilor and former Chairperson of the Missenyi
District Council, acknowledged the school's achievements and the commendable
performance of its teachers and students.
He reassured the audience that measures were being taken to
address the water crisis; infirming that before the dissolution of the previous
council, a project had been initiated to construct a water tank at the school,
which would provide a safer water source.
Tegamaisho also promised communicate with Tanroads regional
manager to instigate the necessary changes for pedestrians
crossing the road safely at Bulembo centre.
His commitment reflects the broader recognition of the need for both immediate and long-term solutions to improve the safety and well-being of students at Kajunguti Primary School.
