Tanzania and Zimbabwe have agreed to strengthen strategic cooperation across politics, economy, defense and security, trade, agriculture, education, tourism, and social development, aiming to ensure that citizens of both countries directly benefit from their historic ties dating back to Africa’s liberation struggles.

The agreement was reached during talks between Tanzania’s Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Ambassador Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Zimbabwe’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Prof. Dr. Amon Murwira, on the sidelines of the 22nd Africa–Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Victoria Falls on October 2–3, 2025.

Minister Kombo highlighted that the Tanzania–Zimbabwe partnership is built on solidarity and shared African values.

He stressed that the Sixth-Phase Government, led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan, is committed to deepening this relationship to ensure tangible benefits for ordinary citizens.

He also praised Zimbabwe for its strong support in regional and international forums, noting that the cooperation has contributed to peace and development in the region.

On economic diplomacy, Minister Kombo underscored the importance of tourism, noting Victoria Falls as a major attraction.

He revealed plans to introduce direct flights between Zanzibar and Victoria Falls, which are expected to increase tourist arrivals and boost local business.

He also highlighted progress in aviation cooperation through the Bilateral Air Services Agreement (BASA), where Air Tanzania Company Limited (ATCL) and Zimbabwe Airways operate direct flights that support tourism and trade growth.

Minister Kombo further appreciated Zimbabwe’s support for Tanzania’s bid for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council for 2027–2028 and for backing the proposal to establish the African Heritage Centre.

He pointed out that a recent visit by 16 Tanzanian companies to Zimbabwe for investment discussions reflects the growing economic partnership between the two countries.

In response, Prof. Dr. Murwira praised Tanzania’s historical contribution to Africa’s liberation and reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s commitment to maintaining this brotherly solidarity.

He assured that Zimbabwe would continue supporting Tanzania in regional and international forums, adding that the partnership strengthens both countries’ voices on global issues.

Analysts say this renewed cooperation is expected to spur economic growth, attract investment, create jobs, and improve livelihoods, directly benefiting citizens in Tanzania and Zimbabwe.
