Spain has applauded Tanzania’s contribution to promoting peace and sustainable development in Africa, pledging to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, and tourism.

Speaking during the celebration of Spain’s National Day held on October 10, 2025, in Dar es Salaam, the Spanish Ambassador to Tanzania, Paloma Robles, described Tanzania as a reliable partner and a key voice in advancing regional stability.

“Spain values its friendship with Tanzania and recognizes its remarkable role in maintaining peace and development on the continent,” said Ambassador Robles.

“Our two nations share common aspirations for prosperity, environmental protection, and people-centered development.”he added

The celebration, hosted at the Spanish Ambassador’s residence, brought together diplomats, senior government officials, and invited guests to mark the longstanding ties between the two countries.

Representing the Government of Tanzania, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, conveyed greetings and congratulations from President Samia Suluhu Hassan to the Government and people of Spain.

Chumi highlighted the 58-year partnership between Tanzania and Spain, describing it as one built on mutual respect and shared goals.

He said Spain remains an important development partner supporting Tanzania’s growth in sectors such as health, water, rural electrification, and agribusiness.

“Our relationship with Spain continues to be a bridge for sustainable development,” said Chumi. “The Government of Tanzania is committed to deepening this cooperation for the benefit of our people.”

He also cited the Msimbazi River Basin rehabilitation project in Dar es Salaam jointly implemented by the Government of Tanzania, the World Bank, and the Government of Spain as a shining example of effective collaboration in improving urban environments and livelihoods.

The Deputy Minister further reflected on the outcomes of the Tanzania–Spain Business and Investment Forum held in Seville in July 2025, attended by Vice President Dr. Philip Mpango.

The forum, he said, paved the way for Spanish companies to explore investment opportunities in Tanzania’s agriculture, mining, ICT, energy, and infrastructure sectors.

“Tanzania welcomes Spanish investors who are eager to partner with us in building an inclusive and resilient economy,” he said.

In her remarks, Ambassador Robles emphasized Spain’s global strength in tourism and encouraged stronger cooperation in that sector.

She expressed interest in supporting Tanzania’s efforts to market its world-class tourist attractions, noting that the country’s natural beauty and hospitality align perfectly with Spain’s tourism experience.

Chumi invited Ambassador Robles to use her photography and social media platforms to promote Tanzania’s destinations, describing her as “a passionate voice who can tell the story of Tanzania’s beauty to the world.”

The celebration of Spain’s National Day in Tanzania symbolized the two nations’ growing partnership, built on shared principles of peace, mutual understanding, and sustainable development.
