Siha Constituency in Kilimanjaro Region is preparing for a parliamentary by-election after the sudden passing of Civic United Front (CUF) candidate, Mr. Daudi Wilibrod Ntuyehabi, on October 8, 2025.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has laid out a comprehensive schedule to ensure the election is conducted smoothly, transparently, and fairly.
INEC confirmed that, in line with Section 71(1) of the Elections Act No. 1 of 2024, all election activities in the constituency were immediately suspended following the candidate’s death.
This pause provided time for the community and political parties to adjust to the unexpected development.
The Commission has set a timetable for the nomination of a new CUF candidate, running from October 15 to October 21, 2025, with the official nomination taking place on the final day.
Campaigns will resume shortly after and continue until December 29, with a temporary break in late October to accommodate the national General Election voting and announcement of results.
The parliamentary by-election is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30, 2025.
INEC emphasized that this process applies only to the CUF nomination and does not affect other candidates who were previously and lawfully nominated unless they choose to withdraw.
The Commission called on all political parties, candidates, and election stakeholders to uphold the Constitution, electoral laws, and INEC guidelines to ensure a free, fair, and peaceful election.
The upcoming by-election offers residents of Siha a vital opportunity to exercise their democratic rights and choose a representative who will voice their concerns in Parliament.
INEC urged all eligible voters to turn out in large numbers, reminding citizens that “your vote is your right come out and vote.”
This by-election underscores the resilience of Tanzania’s democratic system and the commitment of INEC to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process, even in unforeseen circumstances.
