The Chairman of Al-Hikma Islamic Foundation, Sheikh Nurdin Kishki, has urged Tanzanians to stand firm in protecting peace and unity as the nation heads toward the General Election on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

Addressing an interfaith conference in Dar es Salaam on Monday, Sheikh Kishki reminded religious leaders of their critical role in guiding citizens toward harmony and discouraging acts that could destabilize the country.

The conference, which brought together leaders from various faiths, focused on maintaining peace and national cohesion during the election period.

“Our responsibility as faith leaders is to preserve peace and unity among Tanzanians,” Sheikh Kishki said.

“No one should allow themselves to be used by people with selfish motives who aim to divide us or threaten the stability of our nation.”he added

He also expressed concern over the growing tendency of some individuals to mock or discredit religious and community leaders who speak in favor of peace, accusing them of being influenced or paid by authorities.

“Nowadays, when you defend your nation, they call you names and claim you’ve been given money. But I ask those who want to destroy our country, who is paying you?” Sheikh Kishki questioned.

He went on to cite the teachings of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), who emphasized the importance of stopping those who plan evil or wish harm upon society.

“We must not allow foolish or malicious people to threaten our peace. It is our duty to hold them accountable and protect the stability of Tanzania,” he added.

The event comes just two days before the general elections, a period during which religious and civic organizations have intensified peace campaigns nationwide.

Leaders are urging Tanzanians to remain calm, avoid provocation, and reject any messages that promote hatred or division.

“Peace is the foundation of our nation’s development and the pride of every Tanzanian,” Sheikh Kishki emphasized.

“Let us go to the polls peacefully and show the world that Tanzania remains a beacon of unity and democracy in Africa.”he added

The interfaith conference concluded with a joint declaration reaffirming the commitment of religious leaders to continue promoting peace, tolerance, and respect among all citizens before, during, and after the election.
