The Morogoro Regional Police Force has assured residents of maximum security ahead of the October 29 General Election, emphasizing that all security and defense agencies are well-prepared to safeguard peace and protect citizens as they head to the polls.
Regional Police Commander, Alex Mkama, said the region remains calm and that officers are working closely with other security agencies to ensure a peaceful voting environment.
He noted that special patrols have been intensified across all districts to prevent any incidents that could disrupt the electoral process.
“The security situation is under control. We are operating in accordance with the law and established procedures to ensure every citizen can exercise their constitutional right to vote without fear,” said Commander Mkama.
He reminded the public that acts such as inciting demonstrations, vandalizing electoral or public infrastructure, blocking roads, or engaging in any form of violence are strictly prohibited and will attract legal action.
“Anyone attempting to disturb public peace or interfere with the election will face the full force of the law,” he warned.
Commander Mkama also urged residents not to be alarmed by the visible presence of police officers, saying their deployment is part of efforts to maintain order and security during the election period.
“People should not interpret the presence of security officers negatively. Their role is to ensure safety for all,” he added.
Some residents, however, have called for careful positioning of police officers to avoid creating unnecessary tension at polling stations.
Nicolaus John, a resident of Morogoro Municipality, said while safety is essential, security personnel should maintain an appropriate distance from polling stations.
“All we need is assurance of safety. But officers should not be stationed too close to the voting centers, as that can make some voters nervous,” he said.
Another resident, Susana Machibya, echoed the same view, adding: “Police should be present to maintain peace, but they should stay at a reasonable distance. Sometimes people get anxious when they see too many officers around the stations.”
The Morogoro Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the upcoming General Election is conducted peacefully, urging the public to turn out in large numbers and exercise their right to vote in a secure and calm environment.
