Religious leaders in Mbeya have stepped forward to promote peace and unity as Tanzania approaches the October 29 General Election, with Prophet David Mpanji of the Gospel Miracle Church for All People (GMCL) leading prayers for a calm and orderly voting process.
During a special peace service held at his church in Sae over the weekend, worshippers gathered to pray for the nation’s stability and to seek divine guidance for voters, leaders, and security agencies ahead of the polls.
Prophet Mpanji urged Tanzanians to avoid fear, provocation, and calls for violence circulating on social media, emphasizing that national peace must remain the top priority.
“A peaceful nation guarantees prosperity for all. Losing peace means losing everything we have worked for our homes, our businesses, and our future,” he said.
He reminded citizens that preserving peace is everyone’s responsibility, urging them to make thoughtful choices and to reject individuals seeking to exploit the election for personal or political gain.
“We must protect our families, our communities, and our nation. Tanzania’s strength lies in our unity and calmness,” Prophet Mpanji stressed.
The cleric also called for closer cooperation between government leaders, faith communities, and citizens, noting that peace begins at home and extends to the entire nation.
“No one wins when there is violence. Let us act with restraint and wisdom as we approach the elections,” he added.
Prophet Mpanji commended the country’s defense and security organs for maintaining stability, saying he has full confidence that the electoral process will be conducted peacefully and transparently.
He further reminded fellow religious leaders of their vital role in guiding citizens toward tolerance and harmony.
“When peace reigns, people can worship freely, work productively, and live without fear. As faith leaders, we must continue to nurture this spirit of peace,” he said.
The peace prayers in Mbeya reflect growing efforts by faith institutions across the country to promote responsible civic participation and safeguard the stability that has long defined Tanzania’s democracy.
