Prime Minister Kassim Majaliwa is set to launch the 2025 National Youth Week celebrations in Mbeya, a vibrant event that brings together young people from across Tanzania to celebrate innovation, creativity, and national unity.
The announcement was made on October 8, 2025, by the Minister of State in the Prime Minister’s Office (Labour, Youth, Employment and Persons with Disabilities), Ridhiwani Kikwete, during a press briefing held at the Mbeya Regional Commissioner’s Office.
Kikwete said the official launch will take place at Uhindini Grounds in Mbeya City, marking the start of a week-long celebration from October 8 to 14, 2025.
The annual event, he said, aims to honor the legacy of the Father of the Nation, the late Mwalimu Julius Kambarage Nyerere, by engaging youth from both Mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar in discussions and exhibitions that showcase their talents, creativity, and entrepreneurial skills.
“The Youth Week is not just a commemoration it is an opportunity for young people to learn, innovate, and connect. It empowers them to play a greater role in the country’s development,” said Kikwete.
He added that the week will feature forums and exhibitions focused on entrepreneurship, digital innovation, and self-employment opportunities.
Participants will also be introduced to the newly revised 2024 edition of the National Youth Development Policy, which seeks to strengthen youth participation in national growth and decision-making.
Kikwete noted that the Youth Week will culminate with the grand finale of the Uhuru Torch Race on October 14, 2025, at the CCM–Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya.
He urged residents of Mbeya and neighboring regions to turn up in large numbers to take part in the celebrations and support young innovators showcasing their work.
“The government remains committed to empowering youth as key drivers of transformation,” Kikwete emphasized. “We encourage everyone to come together and celebrate the energy, creativity, and resilience of Tanzania’s young generation.”
