President of the United Republic of Tanzania, Dr. Samia Suluhu Hassan, has revolutionized the country’s tourism sector during her sixth phase government, boosting both revenue and international visibility through initiatives like the films Tanzania: The Royal Tour and Amazing Tanzania.

Speaking on ITV’s Dakika 45 on October 20, 2025, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Dr. Hassan Abbasi, said the Royal Tour project cost 8 billion Tanzanian shillings but has already generated an impressive 9 trillion shillings in revenue.

Tourism earnings have surged from 1.3 billion US dollars in 2021 to 3.9 billion US dollars, while the number of visitors has grown from 1.5 million to 2.2 million annually.

Employment in the sector has also expanded significantly, with direct jobs increasing from 1.5 million to 2.5 million and indirect jobs reaching 3.6 million, bringing the total workforce in tourism to around 5 million.

Dr. Abbasi noted that the government continues to develop new tourist attractions and promote Tanzania globally, including through major international sports clubs.

On conservation, he highlighted efforts to recruit more wildlife rangers and leverage modern technologies such as drones and GPS collars to monitor wildlife movements.

He called on citizens to explore investment opportunities in tourism, from hotels and lodges to cultural ventures, as the sector continues to drive economic growth and support Vision 2050.
