The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) is earning praise for putting citizens at the center of its work, ensuring that Tanzania’s environment is protected while communities benefit directly.

The Public Service Commissioner, Dr. Laurean Ndumbaro, commended the council during a working visit to its Dar es Salaam offices on October 23, 2025.

Dr. Ndumbaro highlighted that NEMC’s commitment to integrity and accountability means that citizens can trust public services to be fair, efficient, and responsible.

“Institutions that operate transparently and ethically provide real value to citizens. NEMC’s work ensures cleaner air, safer water, and protected natural resources for every Tanzanian,” he said.

He further noted that the council’s success in implementing environmental projects and enforcing laws shows that public interests are prioritized over personal gain, creating a safer and healthier environment for communities across the country.

Responding to the recognition, NEMC Director General, Dr. Immaculate Sware Semesi, said the praise motivates staff to continue working professionally and innovatively.

“Acknowledgment from the Public Service Commission inspires us to strengthen our efforts in protecting natural resources, ensuring sustainable development, and improving the quality of life for all citizens,” she said.

The Commissioner’s visit included experts from the Public Service Commission, including Mr. Peleleja Masesa, Director of Guidelines, Empowerment, and Research, who joined in reviewing NEMC’s initiatives and operations.
