The 2025 edition of the National Cross Country Championships is scheduled for November in Arusha, Athletics Tanzania (AT) has announced.

Alfredo Shahanga, AT’s Technical Director, confirmed that the championships will take place on November 15, adding that preparations are already underway.

He did not disclose the exact venue, noting that discussions with potential site owners are still ongoing.

“The event will also serve to select 24 athletes to represent Tanzania at the 46th World Athletics Cross Country Championships next year, scheduled for January 10 in Tallahassee, United States,” Shahanga said.

The selected team will include six men, six women, six boys, and six girls, ensuring equal gender representation.

Shahanga added that potential venues under consideration include Ilboru Secondary School, Magereza Grounds, and other locations

He assured the public that a final decision will be announced once agreements with venue owners are completed.

The names of the team’s coaches will be revealed after the national team is selected.

Last year, the National Cross Country Championships were held at Ilboru Secondary School, where 12 athletes were selected to represent Tanzania at the World Cross Country Championships in Belgrade, Serbia. However, the team did not travel to the event.

“This year, we are committed to ensuring that all 24 selected athletes travel to the USA,” Shahanga emphasized.

“We will engage all stakeholders, including the government and private sector, to provide the necessary support.”he added

Tallahassee will host the World Athletics Cross Country Championships for the third time in the United States, the first since 1992 in Boston. New York previously hosted the championship in 1984.
