The District Commissioner of Mbeya, Solomon Itunda, and the District Executive Director, Erica Yegella, have been recognised for their exemplary leadership by officials of the Mbeya District Council.
The awards were presented during a ceremony over the weekend at Mbalizi Township Authority, celebrating the council’s impressive performance in the Mwenge Relay competition for the Southern Highlands regions.
Agness Elikunda, Head of the Community Development Department, said the recognition was a reflection of the duo’s strong leadership, which has driven improvements in social services and overall community development.
Certificates were also awarded to the district-level Mwenge coordinators Emmanuel Mbwilo, Fabian Mtisi, and Master of Ceremonies Jacobo Peter for their key roles in organising the event.
DC Itunda expressed gratitude to council management and staff for their dedication, which helped Mbeya clinch the top regional prize during the national Mwenge wa Uhuru climax.
“Thank you to all staff for your commitment in preparing for Mwenge wa Uhuru and successfully presenting our projects. Mbeya District Council has truly set the standard,” he said, attributing the victory to meticulous planning, strong project management, and teamwork.
