ACT Wazalendo has vowed to restore Ujiji town as a commercial hub by implementing the long-awaited Ujiji City project, a move expected to boost trade and stimulate economic growth in the region.
Speaking on October 18, 2025, at a campaign rally in Kasingirima Ward, ACT Wazalendo parliamentary candidate for Kigoma Town, Zitto Kabwe, said the project had previously attracted investors but stalled due to misunderstandings that led investors to explore opportunities elsewhere in the country.
He assured residents that, if elected along with ACT Wazalendo councilors, the party would resume negotiations with the investors. A 15-hectare site in Kitongoni Ward has already been earmarked for the project’s development.
Zitto outlined other key initiatives to be implemented in Ujiji, including the rehabilitation of the port through the removal of obstructing water using advanced ‘fabricated iron bars’ technology, completion of a bridge and irrigation scheme along the Luiche River valley, establishment of a central food market, construction of a road linking Msimba to Ujiji, and upgrading the local bus terminal to improve services for regional commuters.
“No other candidate has a concrete plan to revive Ujiji like ACT Wazalendo. I urge residents to unite behind us to ensure the municipality achieves its full potential,” Zitto said.
