By Victoria Godfrey

Defending champions JKT Queens have secured a place in the 2025/2026 Women's Community Shield final after a nail-biting 6-5 penalty shootout victory over Yanga Princess, following a hard-fought 1-1 draw in regulation time.

The thrilling encounter took place at KMC Complex Stadium and was the second semifinal of the tournament.

Earlier, Simba Queens had already booked their final spot by defeating Mashujaa Queens 2-0, setting the stage for a clash between two of the competition’s former champions.

JKT Queens opened the scoring in the 27th minute when Winifrida Gerald picked up the ball and fired a precise shot past Yanga Princess goalkeeper Zubeda Mgunda.

Yanga Princess fought back just before halftime, with Jeaninne Mukandayisenga converting a free kick in the 44th minute to level the score, though the attempt appeared tame.

The first half ended 1-1, and neither side could break the deadlock in the second half, leading to a tense penalty shootout.

Yanga Princess faced a further setback when left-back Wincate Kaari received a second yellow card, earning a red and leaving her team shorthanded at a critical stage.

In the ensuing penalties, JKT Queens held their nerve, ultimately triumphing 6-5 to set up a highly anticipated final against Simba Queens, who also boast a title win since the tournament’s launch in 2023.
