Tanzania’s women’s football champions, JKT Queens, are set to travel to Turkey for a high-intensity training camp as part of their final preparations for the CAF Women’s Champions League scheduled to kick off in early November in Algeria.
The team, which is currently in a short domestic camp in Dar es Salaam, is expected to leave the country on October 9, 2025, and remain in Turkey until October 20.
According to JKT Tanzania and JKT Queens Communication Officer, Masau Bwire, the choice of Turkey was strategic as the weather conditions there are similar to those in Algeria, allowing players to adjust easily ahead of the continental tournament.
Bwire said preparations are progressing smoothly and the team is in the final stages of obtaining clearance from the Tanzania Football Federation.
“The team is now finalizing its local training program before departing for Turkey, where we will have the opportunity to sharpen our skills and fitness levels ahead of the competition,” he explained.
While in Turkey, JKT Queens will play several friendly matches against top women’s Premier League clubs, including Faith Vatan Spor, as part of efforts to test tactical readiness and team coordination.
Bwire emphasized that the camp is a crucial part of their strategy to ensure the team performs well in Algeria.
He noted that this will be JKT Queens’ second appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League, and the team is determined to make history by winning the title and elevating the reputation of Tanzanian women’s football on the continental stage.
“We are going to compete, not just to participate. Our goal is to win the championship and bring pride to Tanzania and the CECAFA region by showing that we are a strong and competitive team,” said Bwire.
He added that success in the tournament will depend on adequate preparation, focus, and teamwork. For JKT Queens, the Turkey camp provides a vital opportunity to build cohesion, fine-tune their game plan, and boost players’ confidence before heading into the championship.
This year’s CAF Women’s Champions League will bring together the best clubs from across Africa, including regional champions, the defending champions, and the host nation.
JKT Queens will represent the CECAFA zone after securing qualification earlier this year.
The Tanzanian side first participated in the tournament in 2023 in Ivory Coast, where they gained valuable experience competing against Africa’s elite clubs.
Their return this year reflects the steady growth of women’s football in Tanzania and the region, following the footsteps of other CECAFA representatives such as Vihiga Queens of Kenya, Simba Queens of Tanzania, and CBE of Ethiopia.
With their sights set on the continental crown, JKT Queens are determined to make this campaign a defining chapter in their football journey and a source of national pride.
