INEC Moves to Protect Voters’ Rights Ahead of 2025 General Election

By The Respondent Reporter

As Tanzania prepares for the 2025 General Election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has taken proactive steps to ensure that all citizens can exercise their right to vote despite recent changes in electoral boundaries.

Earlier this month, the government designated certain areas in Tabora and Katavi regions as refugee settlements, leading to the dissolution of ten wards across Kaliua, Nsimbo, and Tanganyika districts.

While such changes could have left thousands of voters without accessible polling stations, INEC acted quickly to safeguard their participation.

The Commission has reassigned over 106,000 voters from the affected wards to newly established polling stations in nearby areas, ensuring they can vote without disruption.

The adjustments also include revoking previously appointed councilor candidates in the dissolved wards.

INEC emphasizes that these decisions are not aimed at excluding anyone but are necessary to align the election process with the updated administrative map.

By relocating polling stations and updating the voter list, INEC is sending a clear message: every citizen’s vote matters.

The Commission encourages voters to familiarize themselves with the new locations and make plans to participate in the Presidential, Parliamentary, and Local Government elections on October 29, 2025.

This move highlights INEC’s commitment to an inclusive electoral process that prioritizes accessibility and fairness, ensuring that no voter is left behind due to administrative changes.
