The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation responsible for East African Affairs, Dennis Londo, has praised the Indian High Commission for strengthening cultural diplomacy through its art initiative, “Tanzania on Canvas.”
Hon. Londo made the remarks in Dar es Salaam during the award ceremony of the student art competition, which brought together learners from different schools to showcase paintings reflecting Tanzania’s culture, environment, and everyday life.
Representing Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Hon. Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, Londo commended the initiative for inspiring creativity among youth and reinforcing the social and cultural bond between Tanzania and India.
“This is an idea that touches everyone. The creativity displayed by students through their artwork is truly inspiring. I urge the Indian High Commission to expand the scope of participating schools to allow wider involvement from across the country,” he said.
He added that art and creativity are vital for building cohesive societies and that cultural diplomacy remains a powerful tool in strengthening friendships between nations.
India’s High Commissioner to Tanzania, Bishwadip Dey, echoed the sentiment, underlining the importance of nurturing young talent for the shared future of both countries.
“The youth are the backbone of Africa’s future. By nurturing their creativity and giving them platforms to express themselves, we can ensure that the longstanding friendship between India and Tanzania endures for generations to come,” Ambassador Dey said.
He reaffirmed India’s commitment to supporting Tanzania in education, technology, and culture through scholarships, training, and exchange programs run by institutions such as the Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre in Dar es Salaam.
The “Tanzania on Canvas” competition is part of the Indian High Commission’s broader cultural diplomacy efforts, celebrating creativity as a bridge of friendship between the two nations.
