Government, World Bank strengthen partnership on development projects

The Government of Tanzania has reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the World Bank to ensure timely and efficient implementation of development projects funded through their partnership.

Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Natu El-Maamry Mwamba, made the remarks during the Country Portfolio Performance Review (CPPR) held at the Bank of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.

The review aimed to identify key systemic challenges slowing project execution and to develop a joint action plan to address them.

Currently, Tanzania is implementing 35 World Bank-funded projects. These include 29 national initiatives spanning social and economic sectors and six regional projects, all aimed at accelerating sustainable development across the country.

Dr. Mwamba said effective project implementation will contribute to social and economic growth while supporting the National Development Vision 2050, Zanzibar Development Vision 2050, the Third Five-Year National Development Plan (2021/22–2025/26), and ZADEP 2021–2026.

Milena Stefanova, Regional Director for the World Bank Southern Africa, praised the Tanzanian Government for its strong cooperation.

“The World Bank values the Government’s commitment to project execution, strengthening joint frameworks, and ensuring development goals are met efficiently,” she said.

The collaboration between the Government and the World Bank lays a strong foundation for delivering results to citizens, promoting social and economic well-being, and ensuring projects are completed effectively.

Both parties also agreed to prepare a work plan for review ahead of the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) Spring Meetings scheduled for April 2026.
