The government has stepped up efforts to safeguard communities by relocating elephants from residential areas to Burigi-Chato National Park.
On October 4, 2025, wildlife authorities successfully moved two more herds, totaling over 100 elephants, away from human settlements.
This intervention comes as a direct response to long-standing appeals from citizens whose farms, homes, and even lives have been threatened by elephant incursions.
The relocation is expected to reduce conflicts between people and wildlife, allowing residents to pursue farming and other economic activities in greater safety.
For years, villagers in the affected regions have faced serious challenges including damaged crops, destroyed property, and the constant risk of fatal encounters.
By transferring the elephants to Burigi-Chato, authorities are ensuring both the protection of communities and the conservation of wildlife.
Officials assured the public that the operation will continue until all stray herds are moved, underscoring the government’s commitment to protecting citizens’ livelihoods while preserving Tanzania’s rich natural heritage.
