The Deputy Permanent Secretary in the President’s Office–Regional Administration and Local Government (PO-RALG), responsible for Infrastructure, Engineer Rogatus Mativila, has commended the quality and pace of work on the ongoing Chumbi–Kiegele road construction project in Rufiji District, Coast Region.

The 1.2-kilometre tarmac road, implemented by the Tanzania Rural and Urban Roads Agency (TARURA), is designed to improve transport efficiency, support local businesses, and ease the movement of people and goods in the area.

“I am satisfied with the work done here. The contractor, RAPCO Construction, has delivered on time and to the expected quality. I encourage them to maintain this standard of excellence and continue working with discipline on future PO-RALG projects through TARURA,” said Engineer Mativila.

He added that the government will continue to monitor infrastructure projects closely to ensure value for money and timely delivery. He also urged contractors across the country to uphold professionalism and adhere to agreed timelines to ensure sustainable development.

Providing details on the project, TARURA Coast Regional Manager, Engineer Ibrahim Kibasa, said the road construction has reached 95 percent completion at a total cost of TSh 1.499 billion. The project includes the installation of stormwater drainage systems and 18 solar-powered streetlights to enhance safety and accessibility.

“The contractor has performed well and completed the work on schedule. As a Tanzanian firm, they have demonstrated great commitment and capacity in executing this project, which will improve access to social services for residents,” Engineer Kibasa explained.

Local residents expressed their gratitude to the government for bringing tangible development to the area. They said that before the project, transportation was difficult, especially during the rainy season, making it hard to transport agricultural produce and livestock.

“With this new tarmac road, life will be much easier. It will boost business, improve access to health and education services, and open up more opportunities for our community,” said one of the residents.

The Chumbi–Kiegele road is part of the government’s continued investment in rural infrastructure aimed at promoting inclusive growth and improving livelihoods in all regions of Tanzania.
