Dar es Salaam Regional Commissioner, Mr. Albert Chalamila, has called on the Dar es Salaam Water and Sewerage Authority (DAWASA) to act quickly to improve water services, ensuring that residents across the city have reliable access to clean water.

Speaking during a meeting with DAWASA officials, Mr. Chalamila emphasized the need to identify neighborhoods facing long-term water shortages and implement immediate measures to resolve these challenges.

“The government has invested heavily in the water sector, including the Southern Dar es Salaam Water Project (Bangulo), which is now supplying water to Segerea, Kinyerezi, Kibamba, and Ubungo areas that have struggled with water shortages for years. I urge residents to be patient as DAWASA works swiftly to expand and improve services,” he said.

The Regional Commissioner also highlighted the government’s initiative to utilize over 190 existing boreholes in various parts of the city. DAWASA has already begun tapping these sources to increase water availability and meet growing demand.

DAWASA CEO, Engineer Mkama Bwire, confirmed that the authority is actively following the directives, with ongoing efforts to improve service delivery.

“Currently, water demand in Dar es Salaam has risen to 685,677 cubic meters per day due to the city’s growing population, while production stands at 534,600 cubic meters daily. We are working hard to bridge this gap,” Engineer Bwire said.

He added that the government’s investments, especially the Bangulo Water Project, are already making a difference by providing reliable water supply to residents in Segerea, Ukonga, Kisarawe, and Kinyerezi, ensuring communities that have long faced water challenges can now enjoy better access to this vital resource.
