The National Sports Council (BMT) has pledged to support the Tanzania Paralympic Swimming Association (TPSA) in preparing athletes for international competitions, including the 2028 Paralympic Games in the United States.

Speaking in Dar es Salaam on October 11, 2025, during the National Championships for People with Disabilities, BMT Sports Officer Charles Maguzu said the council is determined to ensure that athletes with disabilities are well-prepared and supported to represent the nation with pride at global sporting events.

He said the support will include allocating funds for training camps, providing round-trip travel tickets, and other logistics necessary for effective participation in international tournaments.

“Our goal is to see Tanzanian athletes with disabilities performing well at the next Paralympic Games,” said Maguzu.

“This requires collective effort from the association, the government, and other stakeholders. BMT is ready to collaborate fully by ensuring financial and logistical support is in place.”he added

Maguzu encouraged the athletes to remain focused and committed to their dreams, emphasizing that their talent is a national treasure capable of bringing pride and recognition to Tanzania.

“Do not lose hope your dedication and hard work are key to success,” he told the participants. “Follow the guidance of your coaches and parents so that you can achieve great results.”

On his part, TPSA Parmanent Secretary Ramadhan Namkoveka said the association aims to prepare at least eight swimmers to represent Tanzania at the 2028 Paralympic Games.

“To achieve this target, we need strong collaboration among sponsors, media, and parents,” he said.

Namkoveka noted that 102 swimmers from various clubs and schools across the country are participating in the ongoing national championship, which serves as a key step in identifying and grooming talents for international competitions.

He added that TPSA remains committed to promoting inclusivity and creating opportunities for people with disabilities to excel in sports, particularly swimming a discipline that continues to attract growing interest across Tanzania.

“These athletes have shown incredible potential and determination,” he said. “With the right support system, Tanzania can become a strong contender in Paralympic swimming at the global level.”
