ACT Wazalendo has called on the National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the swearing-in period for election agents, citing challenges that affected the process in several constituencies.
The party says the move is necessary to ensure all political parties have a fair chance to participate in the voting and counting scheduled for October 29, 2025.
The request, referenced ACT/HQ/INEC/024/VOL.III/044, was submitted to INEC today.
According to ACT Wazalendo, while many election officials carried out their duties professionally, there were incidents that disrupted the swearing-in exercise.
In some areas, offices were reportedly closed before the process could be completed, and agents were turned away despite following official schedules.
Other challenges included delays caused by travel difficulties, disputes over eligibility and documentation, and instances where agents were unable to take the oath due to personal emergencies or adverse weather conditions.
The party said these issues have been reported in several constituencies, including Temeke, Mbagala, Chamazi, Ubungo, Mkuranga, Ulyankulu, Arumeru Mashariki, Butihama, Ruangwa, Iringa Mjini, Tarime Vijijini, Shinyanga Mjini, Karagwe, Songwe, Momba, Isimani, Mbeya Mjini, and Mbeya Vijijini.
ACT Wazalendo emphasized that the request for an extension is in line with the Election Regulations, which give INEC the authority to allow additional time for the identification and swearing-in of agents.
The party has proposed that the process continue until October 27, 2025, two days before the election, to ensure all agents are properly sworn in.
The move underscores ACT Wazalendo’s commitment to a transparent and inclusive electoral process, ensuring that all parties and candidates can participate fully and fairly in the upcoming elections.
