All eyes will be on Benjamin Mkapa Stadium tomorrow as Tanzania’s football powerhouses, Young Africans (Yanga) and Simba SC, lock horns in the curtain-raiser of the new season the Community Shield.

Speaking ahead of the clash today, September 15, coaches and players from both sides expressed confidence and outlined their strategies for victory in what is always one of the country’s most eagerly awaited fixtures.

Simba head coach Fadlu Davids played down any pressure on his squad, insisting that his players are focused and ready. He highlighted the team’s strong pre-season preparations and the quality of new signings brought in to strengthen the squad.

“We know it will be a tough match because we are facing a strong opponent in a derby game. But for us, there is no pressure. We are prepared and determined to give our fans joy,” said Davids.

Team captain Shomari Kapombe assured fans that every player is committed to fighting for victory.
“As players, we are ready. Whoever is chosen to play will give 100 percent to ensure Simba wins,” Kapombe stressed.

On the other side, Yanga head coach Romain Folz described the match as an opportunity to set the tone for the new season.

He acknowledged the intensity of the fixture but underlined his team’s determination to meet fans’ expectations.

“We have prepared well, and we know this will be a very competitive game. Our focus is to make sure our supporters leave the stadium happy,” Folz explained.

Yanga defender Dickson Job echoed his coach’s remarks, noting that the team is keen to apply tactical discipline against their rivals.

“This is an important game. We are ready, and we studied how Simba played against Gor Mahia during Simba Day. We know the areas where we can put pressure on them,” said Job.

The Community Shield, contested annually between the reigning league champions and FA Cup winners, serves as the official opening of Tanzania’s football season.

Tomorrow’s derby is expected to attract thousands of fans, with the country’s two most successful clubs battling not only for silverware but also for early bragging rights.
