Tanzania making positive strides in saving newborn and mothers lives

The Canadian Government said Tanzania is making alot of positive strides in serving the lives of new born babies and mothers ,and promised continued support to the health sector in the country.

This was said yesterday in Dar es Salaam by Canadian High Commissioner in the country Her excellency Emily Burns at the function to handover two vehicles to AMREF and Tanzania Midwives Association (TAMA)respectively and 56 modern bicycles and safety equipment to community health workers(CHW).

She said the donations are under the Strengthening Midwifery in Tanzania (SMIT) seven year project which are being taken in partnership with the government of Tanzania ,Canadian Government through Global Affairs Canada(GAC) and United Nations Population Fund(UNFPA).

The ambassador said currently Tanzania children stand a better chance of surviving past thier fifth birthday and her country is proud to partner with Tanzania in this effort .

“ The government has made strides in reducing maternal and mortality rate,in the year 2015 the country was recording 556 deaths of newborns and mothers during delivery but in 2022 the rate decreased to 104 deaths from 100,000 live births , this is a good progress ,but we must work together to make sure that there are no deaths at birth,” she said.
